AND SHE FLOATED - WITH A SMILE

AND SHE FLOATED - WITH A SMILE

4 days after she came to earth, she floated lifeless, but with a smile.

9 months ago when she was conceived and the news broke out, 2 sections of a community ended up in a brawl. Showering verbal blows at each other, on whether she should be allowed or not, the intellectual educated community was torn between orthodox traditions and modern global thinking. Finally the handful modern thinkers took lead, and started nurturing the dream.

While the creator put all pieces together, and covered bones with muscles and skin, it seemed as if we were living a dream together, in real life. And then the day arrived, when she came to life on earth. Her beautiful eyes looked straight through us, as if questioning our educated but orthodox society, that still resists change for good. The 4 days she stayed with us, gave a new lease to our life, and filled it with happiness and cheer.

But the orthodox thinkers did not change. They still questioned her existence, and found faults in her form, her skin texture, her posture, everything they could lay their eyes and hands on. While the modern thinkers did not let her go, orthodox traditions prevailed, and she was led to her watery grave. As we all bade her a tearful goodbye, there she was standing tall, ready to take the final plunge. As if she had the confidence to prove her existence. Then she just laid back and landed on water, as if it were a bed of rose petals.

But instead of drowning, she just floated lifeless, with a smile.

Because she was made of Paper.

For the first time an eco-friendly idol of Goddess Durga was worshipped in Bhopal, at Awadhpuri and Arera Colony.
